Transforming Content Strategy: Developing a Roadmap for UNT CLASS

This artifact presents a content strategy project for the University of North Texas College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (UNT CLASS). The project involved a comprehensive evaluation of the college’s website, focusing on improving usability, accessibility, and alignment with institutional goals such as promoting research and supporting stakeholder engagement. As the team lead, I conducted the majority of the research, analysis, and reporting to ensure a cohesive and actionable strategy.

Background

The goals of the project included:

  • Aligning the UNT CLASS website with the college’s strategic goals as outlined in the CLASS Research Roadmap.
  • Conducting usability testing and a content audit to identify key areas for improvement.
  • Developing a roadmap for improving content governance and integrating a centralized research tab to showcase the college’s contributions.

The deliverables were a detailed content strategy plan, a usability report, and sample content models to support the website’s redesign.

Objectives

The primary objectives of this project were:

  • To analyze the current website’s content for relevance, usability, and accessibility.
  • To propose a content model that supports the creation of a centralized research tab for CLASS.
  • To provide actionable recommendations for improving navigation, branding, and user engagement.

Outcome

The project achieved the following results:

  • A clear roadmap for restructuring the UNT CLASS website, including navigation improvements, SEO optimization, and updated content formats.
  • Practical recommendations for creating a centralized research tab that highlights CLASS’s scholarly and creative contributions.
  • Development of a content model and editorial calendar to support content governance and ongoing updates.

Approach

The project began with stakeholder interviews to understand user needs and institutional goals, as highlighted in the CLASS Research Roadmap. Usability testing and a detailed content audit revealed key pain points, including disorganized navigation, outdated PDFs, and limited audience-focused content.

Based on these findings, the project proposed restructuring navigation menus to align with user expectations, replacing static PDFs with interactive web pages, and creating a research tab to reflect CLASS’s diverse academic strengths. A content model was developed to standardize future content creation, and an editorial calendar outlined daily, weekly, and monthly tasks to maintain the site’s relevance and usability.

Final Deliverable

The final deliverables were an SEO strategy analysis and content strategy plan in PDF format, with an accompanying content strategy plan PowerPoint presentation.
